Description
Derm Stop is a lotion based on benzyl benzoate, a useful ingredient in the treatment of horses and ponies affected by Relapsing Summer Dermatitis (DER).
This skin pathology, which typically affects horses, is seasonal and allergic based and is characterized by the appearance of extremely itchy lesions, resulting from the bite of insects, very similar to midges, belonging to the genus Culicoides. In Italy the manifestations related to this pathology are commonly referred to as “ardor of the horse” or “summer mange”, while in Anglo-Saxon terms they are defined as “sweet itch” or “sweet itch”. The areas most affected are the head, the withers, the shoulders, the rump, the chest, the abdominal region and the base of the tail. The lesions are typical of the allergic reaction: initially small but very itchy papules are formed, which induce the horse to scratch; as a result of this self-trauma, the lesions worsen, resulting in alopecic areas or areas with broken hair, together with excoriations and scabs, which can lead to secondary bacterial infections.
The pathology develops mainly in spring and slowly regresses in autumn, but every year it recurs with increasingly accentuated symptomatological pictures. For prophylactic purposes, in subjects sensitive to DER, it is recommended to start applying the product in the spring before the onset of symptoms, continuing the treatment until the end of summer.
METHOD OF USE Shake the bottle before use. Wear rubber gloves and pour a large walnut-sized quantity of product into the palm of your hand. Spread the product on the areas to be treated, massaging vigorously against the grain, so that the product penetrates the skin. Repeat the treatment twice a day during the first week. Gradually reduce the frequency of treatments until reaching a weekly application.
COMPOSITION: Purified water, lanolin, 25% benzyl benzoate
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE ACTIVE PRINCIPLES Benzyl benzoate is a molecule used in the form of gel and emulsions in the medical field in the treatment of scabies, of which they kill the mite. The benzyl benzoate in horse DER allows to reduce irritation in the affected areas, to control bacterial infections and to keep insects away, starting point in the control of the disease
